Austrian Mountain Troop Jacket

The Austrian Mountain Troop Ripstop Jacket (part of the Anzug 03 or KAZ 03 system) is a lightweight, durable field jacket designed for high-activity use in rugged terrain. It sits somewhere between a heavy combat shirt and a traditional field coat.

The Basics

• Material: Made from a 65% polyester / 35% cotton blend with a ripstop weave. This "box-grid" pattern prevents small snags or holes from tearing further.
• Design: It features a slim, athletic cut compared to the bulky M65 parkas. It is designed to be worn comfortably under the straps of a heavy rucksack.
• Pockets:
  • Two large, vertical "Napoleon" zippered chest pockets (easy to access while wearing a backpack or chest rig).
  • One zippered pocket on the upper left arm.
  • Usually includes internal pockets for secure storage.
• Closure: A full-length front zipper protected by a button-down storm flap to block wind.

What to Expect

• Breathability: Because it is unlined and made of a poly-cotton blend, it breathes much better than a waterproof shell, making it ideal for hiking or physical work in cool weather.
• Adjustability: It typically has Velcro cuffs and an internal waist drawcord so you can cinch it to keep heat in or leave it loose for airflow.
• Condition: As an "Issued" item, expect standard surplus traits: fading, maybe a soldier's name on the tag, or small professional repairs. The ripstop fabric is notoriously tough, so the structural integrity is usually excellent.
